A wide variety of microorganisms stored in human intestinal tract collectively constitute the micro-ecological environment of human intestinal tract. Under normal circumstances, the intestinal micro-ecology is in equilibrium where there is mutualism between the intestinal microorganisms and human body. But when human body is in stress state due to strong damages, intestinal microorganism imbalance and the translocation of bacteria or toxin released from the products may constantly have irritation effect on inflammatory mediators, resulting in releasing large amount of inflammatory mediators, causing endogenous infection and participating in the occurrence and development of MIRS/MODS. Therefore, intestinal tract is one of the most important places for inflammatory cell activation and release of inflammatory mediators as well as a source of MODS. Actively preventing and correcting intestinal micro-ecological imbalance is of great significance in the treatment and prognosis of MODS.
