| Objective: To investigate the association between the monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) and metabolic syndrome (MS) in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 160 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women diagnosed with MS in our hospital between October 2021 and October 2024 (study group), and 160 age-matched women without MS during the same period (control group). Clinical data were compared between the two groups, and the correlation between MLR and MS was analyzed.
Results: The study group showed significantly higher age, body mass index (BMI), parity, MLR, white blood cell count, and uric acid levels compared to the control group (P < 0.05). MLR, white blood cell count, and uric acid were identified as independent risk factors for MS in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women (OR > 1). MLR was positively correlated with BMI (r = 0.418, P < 0.001), white blood cell count (r = 0.465, P < 0.001), and uric acid (r = 0.437, P < 0.001). ROC curve analysis revealed that the area under the curve (AUC) for MLR, white blood cell count, uric acid, and their combination in predicting MS were 0.878, 0.832, 0.886, and 0.973, respectively. Conclusion: MLR, as a novel inflammatory marker, is significantly associated with MS in perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. Combined assessment with white blood cell count and uric acid can enhance predictive accuracy. |
