| The global population aging trend poses severe challenges to the perioperative management of elderly and frail patients. Buccal acupuncture therapy, as a non-pharmacological intervention based on holographic medicine, demonstrates unique value in the perioperative management of elderly and frail patients by regulating neuro-endocrine function, inhibiting the NF-KB inflammatory pathway, improving mitochondrial function, and promoting neural network plasticity. This article systematically summarizes the theoretical basis and mechanism of action of buccal acupuncture therapy, and elaborates on its application progress in postoperative pain management, prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting (PONV), cognitive function recovery, and multi-system auxiliary management. Clinical studies have shown that buccal acupuncture therapy can significantly reduce postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) scores by approximately 30%, decrease the incidence of PONV by 40%, lower the risk of cognitive impairment by about 30%, and maintain an adverse reaction rate below 3%. In the future, combined with AI-assisted acupoint localization and wearable smart healthcare technologies, buccal acupuncture therapy is expected to achieve more precise and personalized treatment, providing new ideas and directions for perioperative management of elderly and frail patients. |
